Commissioner’s Period Grants.
Each year South Australia’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Helen Connolly, invites community groups, arts organisations, sporting clubs and local government to apply for small grants of up to $5,000 to undertake activities and projects to promote awareness and reduce the stigma associated with periods and menstruation.
Since publishing her report, Menstruation Matters, the Commissioner has been working collaboratively with government, business and community groups to:
- Raise awareness of period poverty in communities
- Provide greater access to free period products
- Provide easier access to toilets and disposal units in community spaces
- Promote high quality information and education
- Reduce the stigma of menstruation.
In order to further this work, the Commissioner has been supporting efforts to further the interests of young people who menstruate through this grant program. You can find stories about past grant recipients below.
